RIVER-EU project coordinator, Dr Danielle Jansen, joined the European Commission’s stakeholder’s webinar: ‘Commission proposal for a Council Recommendation on vaccine-preventable cancers’, which took place on the 23rd of March 2023. The Commission’s proposal for a Council Recommendation on vaccine-preventable cancers aims to help Member States address vaccine-preventable cancers with a focus on increasing the uptake of vaccination against the Human papillomaviruses (HPV) and Hepatitis B virus (HBV).
Contributing evidence from the RIVER-EU research, Dr Jansen discussed what action is needed to increase uptake of Human papillomaviruses (HPV) vaccination and similarly the action needed to improve the monitoring of HPV vaccination coverage rates in Europe.

“An increase in HPV vaccine uptake is essential and is particularly needed among vulnerable populations. It is crucial that we understand the reasons behind why people are not getting vaccinated.
RIVER-EU’s research focuses on changing healthcare and explores ways in which we can increase HPV vaccination coverage through targeted interventions. I am very pleased and proud to be contributing to this.”
