RIVER-EU project partners are organising two workshops and two poster presentations at the 15th European Public Health Conference (EPHC) that takes place between 9-12 November 2022 in Berlin, Germany. It will be an opportunity to showcase the first RIVER-EU research results. The detailed agenda of the conference is still under development, but you can already save the date for the following sessions.
Workshop 1: Health system barriers to vaccination in underserved communities

A one-hour workshop will be co-chaired by Prof. Maria Ganczak, Vice-President of Infectious Disease Control section at EUPHA and Dr. Bernadette Kumar, the President of EUPHA-Migrant and Ethnic Minority Health section. The presentations will include:
- Health System Barriers for HPV-vaccine uptake in females with a Turkish or Moroccan Migration background in the Netherlands, Dr. Janine de Zeeuw, University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), the Netherlands
- Health system barriers to HPV vaccination in marginalized Roma communities in Slovakia, Dr. Daniela Fiľakovská Bobáková, Pavol Jozef Safarik University, Slovakia
- Health system barriers to HPV and MMR vaccination in recent migrants/refugees in Greece, Mrs. Pania Karnaki, Prolepsis Institute
- Health system barriers to vaccination among Ukrainian economic migrants in Poland, Prof. Maria Ganczak, Vice-President, Infectious Disease Control Section, EUPHA; Dept of Infectious Diseases, University of Zielona Gora, Poland
There will also be four break-out discussions:
- Key barriers to vaccination;
- Key facilitators to vaccination;
- Main lessons learnt;
- Ways forward for the future to increase vaccine uptake among underserved paediatric communities to reduce the burden of vaccine preventable diseases.
Workshop 2: Empowering examples of high vaccination in minorities: learning from three underserved communities

A one-hour workshop, co-chaired by Prof. Michael Edelstein, Bar Ilan University (BIU) in Israel and Dr. Danielle Jansen, University of Groningen in the Netherlands, will discuss the following empowering examples:
- The Somali community in Finland, Idil Hussein, Researcher, The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), Finland
- The Bangladeshi community in United Kingdom, Ifra Ali, Researcher, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), United Kingdom
- The Arab community in Israel, Dr. Jumanah Essa-Hadad, Bar Ilan University (BIU) Israel
Poster presentation: Assessment of needs-based usefulness of interventions to address system barriers to HPV vaccination (presented by Tamara Schloemer, Maastricht University, the Netherlands)
